Late Autumn Driving in Minnesota

A couple of weeks ago saw me leaving home for my latest voyage. First destination was Wisconsin and it was apparent that we were getting to the latter stages of autumn.

Next was California, where things are starting to cool down on Donner Pass.

From California it was straight back to Wisconsin. Apparently I'm not getting enough quality time there. Freight was light out of Wisconsin this time, being the day after Thanks Giving. So with a full load of Yacht Fuel, it was back to Minnesota for the next load. I stopped for the night at a rest area about forty miles into Minnesota, from Wisconsin, with a weather warning. Apparently spelling is a bit of a problem here, as it is still Autumn, but they spelled the warning as a Winter Weather Warning.

I took a photo from inside the cab, and another at the outside of the truck on the evening that I arrived (last night) and again this morning.

From the rest area it was off to Worthington on the other side of Minnesota to get the trailer washed, before going north about an hour to get loaded.

Some dashcam footage driving through Luverne Minnesota.

And some dashcam of highway 75 Minnesota also from today.

I'm back in the yard for the night in Sioux Falls, before heading out with todays load, tomorrow.

Once around the sun

October 3rd last year we hopped on a plane in Dunedin NZ. A day later on October 3rd we arrived in the States. Since then we have experienced a full year of seasons. I've been on the road for the last seven months and seen a large portion of the country. At first it was alien to me. Tonight as I  […]

Then things got busy

After finishing in Washington, it was down to Eugene, Oregon, for a load back to the Sioux Falls area. Then back to the yard for resupply and to get a couple of airbags replaced on the truck in the morning. I was able to stop in Rapid City on the way back. This time we were able to go to the local  […]

Slept through what?

Having survived Kansas City, Missouri, I made my way up to Grand Island, Nebraska to pick up a load going to Fresno, California. A broad reach across I-80 through Nebraska to a rest area one mile into Wyoming, for the first night. The next day saw the other side of Wyoming and into Utah, until Salt  […]

Fargo (TV Series)

The first time I visited the States in 2009, My first impression upon going outside in the early to mid afternoon at San Francisco airport, was that I was looking at a TV show. From an overcast Dunedin 24 hours earlier, to a hot sunny day, with cars that were nothing like the ones at home, but had  […]

Re-power and broken windows

I was tentatively given another load to Spokane, Washington. But they had a driver bringing a load out, who had to return to Washington, that didn't have enough time. So I went to Minnesota to pickup the load and took it to Rapid City, where I met the other driver. We swapped trailers, so that he  […]

Waiting

Had a few days off in Rapid City, and the truck had some work done on it, while I was away. I'm writing this from Pasco, Washington where I will be picking up a load in the morning, going back to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I haven't taken any travel photo's this time as the trip out here was  […]

A Shift in the Mood of the World?

This entry is a departure from my normal travel log. For a number of years I have had some of my music distributed digitally, for which I receive a very small royalty. Generally the bulk of the streams and downloads is for This is an instrumental cover, solo recording of Led Zep's Kashmir, of which  […]

Utah to California

The morning started with even more trucks in the rest area than before I went to bed. It wasn't long before the prairie schooner dropped down into Salt Lake City and out the other side. It has been two days of amazing, changing scenery, with spectacular weather. After passing through Salt Lake City,  […]

Go West

After leaving Spanish Fork, Utah I headed north into Idaho to pick up a load of some of their famous potato product, going to Grand Forks, North Dakota. Didn't have time for any photo's on that run, which is unfortunate because there was some stunning scenery. Of note was travelling through Targhee  […]

Spanish Fork, Utah

This morning started out from the rest area in Wyoming, with a flat bed truck cutting me off as I was heading up the on ramp, to the interstate. Just pulled out in front of me, like I wasn't there. The landscape started to change quite quickly. As I crossed the border from Wyoming to Utah, the  […]

Back to the Midwest

The next day I headed up to Yakima, Washington for a load of apples. Reminded me of when I first started linehaul driving, as our main customer in Nelson was an apple orchard. The smell of apples from the coolstore was intense and very pleasant. Once loaded, it was time to head to Chariton, Iowa for  […]

Pause before the next run

Not to different from the container wash pad. Getting the trailer washed out after a load from the meatworks, before a produce load tomorrow. After that, I settled in at the truckstop for a wet Ellensburg, Washington day. And made another coffee. Earlier this morning, before leaving the Seattle area  […]
